5 Reasons To Repair A Cracked Smartphone Touchscreen Without Delay

by Mario Carmona

Though a good case can provide plenty of protection, cracked touchscreens are still one of the most common problems associated with smartphones. Of course, it can be tempting to put off getting a cracked touchscreen repaired, especially when only a small area of the screen is affected. After all, you'll often lose access to the phone for a few days and may need to pay for the repairs.

However, it's still well worth getting even a minimally cracked touchscreen repaired as soon as possible, and here are just five reasons why.

1. Cracks Often Get Worse

If your smartphone's touchscreen is only slightly cracked, you might reason that it isn't such an issue. Unfortunately, cracks tend to grow worse over time. A small crack will often spread outwards until the entire touchscreen is compromised, and it will be less able to put up with even a minor fall without sustaining serious damage. In fact, a cracked touchscreen can shatter completely when put under any added strain.

2. Allows Contaminants to Enter

Touchscreens provide a barrier that protects your smartphone's internal components. When the touchscreen is cracked, it leaves room for dust, dirt, moisture, and other small bits of debris to work their way inside, and even a very small amount of such contaminants can lead to serious damage. Simply putting your phone in a dirty pocket or letting a few raindrops fall on it could disable it completely.

3. Touch Sensors Can be Damaged

It's often possible to keep using a touchscreen after it has been cracked. Unfortunately, the touch sensors that allow you to do so can become damaged due to the uneven pressure placed across them by a cracked screen. When this happens, you'll be less able to properly use your phone and may eventually be unable to even make calls or write messages.

4. Battery Seal Can Be Broken

When your smartphone's touchscreen cracks, it's likely to place more pressure on other parts inside the phone, including the battery pack. This is unfortunate since any pressure here can damage the battery seal. This can mean the battery will drain extremely fast or won't take a charge at all.

5. Cracked Touchscreens Can Cut Your Fingers

Finally, it's worth keeping in mind that any cracks across your smartphone's touchscreen can create sharp edges. Since you'll be moving your fingertips across that screen almost every time you use your smartphone, it can be quite easy to cut your finger. This is hardly going to cause a life-threatening injury, but it's still something you'll probably want to avoid by having cracks repaired as soon as possible.
